Our Story
Eleven Years on China's Roads
We started with one route, two bikes and a belief that the best way to understand China is to ride through it slowly. That belief hasn't changed.

How YoWhere Travel Began
YoWhere Travel was founded in 2013 by a small team of cyclists who had spent years living and riding in China. We'd watched the country change at extraordinary speed — new highways, new cities, new everything — and we wanted to find the roads that hadn't changed. The ancient tea-horse trails of Yunnan. The mountain passes of Xinjiang. The terraced villages of Guizhou that most visitors never reach.
Our first tour was eight riders, one support van and a hand-drawn map. We got lost twice, found a village market that wasn't in any guidebook, and ate the best bowl of noodles any of us had ever tasted. Everyone asked when the next trip was.
Eleven years later, we've led hundreds of tours across six regions, refined our routes season by season, and built relationships with guesthouses, guides and local families that no travel app can replicate. The support van is newer. The maps are better. The noodles are still the best part.
The People Behind Your Trip
Our core team is a mix of long-term China residents, professional cyclists and experienced travel guides. Between us we speak Mandarin, Cantonese, English and a smattering of minority languages picked up on the road. We're small enough to know every rider by name, and experienced enough to handle whatever China throws at us.
What We Stand For
Slow Travel
We design routes that let you stop, look around and talk to people. A cycling tour isn't a race — it's a way of seeing a place at human speed.
Local First
We stay in family guesthouses, eat at local restaurants and hire local guides wherever possible. Your trip money stays in the communities you ride through.
Honest Itineraries
We tell you exactly what each day involves — the climbs, the road surfaces, the distances. No surprises, no overselling. You know what you're signing up for.
Full Support
Every tour runs with a dedicated support vehicle. If you're tired, injured or just want a rest day, the van is there. No rider is ever left behind.
Small Groups
We cap group tours at 12 riders. Smaller groups mean better access to guesthouses, quieter roads and a more personal experience for everyone.
Genuine Expertise
Our guides have ridden every route we sell — many of them dozens of times. They know the shortcuts, the best lunch stops and which villages are worth a detour.
What Makes Us Different
There are plenty of tour operators in China. Here's why riders choose us — and why they come back.
